Which photos work best?
Add one full side view of your pet standing and one photo of their face, in good light, with only your pet in the picture. Those two photos do most of the work. You can add up to 5.
The photos to add, in order of importance
- A full side view, standing. The whole body, nose to tail. This gives us your pet’s shape: the legs, the body, the tail, and the ears.
- A photo of the face, taken straight on. This gives us the face and its markings.
- The other side, if the markings there are different.
For every photo:
- Use good light. Daylight by a window or outdoors is best.
- Have only your pet in the picture.
- Take it while your pet is still, so it is sharp.
Black and dark coats
A dark coat can lose its shape in a photo. Take the photo outdoors or by a window, in front of something lighter than your pet, so the outline of the head, ears, and tail is clear.
What we accept
- 1 to 5 photos for each pet
- JPEG, PNG, HEIC, or WebP
- Up to 15 MB each
Your photos are made smaller on your own device before they are sent. This also removes details stored inside the file, such as where the photo was taken.
If a photo can’t be used
We check each photo as you add it. It shows Looks great or Can’t use this one, with the reason:
- We couldn’t find a dog or cat in this photo. Use a photo where your pet is easy to see.
- We see more than one pet here. Use a photo of just this pet.
- [Your pet’s name] is too small in this one. Use a closer one.
- This one is a bit blurry. Use one taken while your pet was still.
- This one is a bit dark. Use one taken in brighter light.
- Part of [your pet’s name] is cut off in this one. Use one that shows the whole body.
Select Remove on that photo, then add another.
Add or change photos later
- Open your pet’s page from Your pets in the sidebar.
- In Photos, select Add photos.
- Select Refresh from photos to redraw your pet with them.
What happens to your photos
We only use your photos to draw your pet, and they are never shown publicly. Photos of a pet you tried but did not keep are deleted after 7 days. For a pet you keep, you can delete the photos at any time and your pet stays as they are. See our privacy policy.
